 “I am tending toward simplification in most facets of my life. I’m discovering that by letting go of “stuff”, both materially and emotionally, I can move more freely and get more accomplished. My work is going in that direction as well.
My paintings are meant to present as much information as possible with a few, well planned brushstrokes. I simplify my subject matter by looking at the big dark and light shapes first, and ignore all the other “stuff”. That helps me approach the painting abstractly at first; ignoring what the “thing” actually is and simply piece the painting together like a puzzle. I work from dark to light, big to small, until the subject emerges.
In the interest of simplification, I use a very limited palette. I find that using just four colors, plus black and white, eliminates a lot of decision making and creates more harmonious paintings.
Each painting is a unique record of a specific place and time and highlights a subject that has caught my attention. They are meant to be immediate and spontaneous impressions of my reactions to everyday life. It is my hope that the viewer finds some connection that may help him stop, let go a little, and take notice.”

Nancy graduated from Muskingum College with a BA in Art Education, then continued her studies at the Aegean School of Fine Arts in Paros, Greece and at the Instituto de Allende in San Miquel Mexico. After a career in the Hospitality business and while raising her two children, she began studying again at Mass College of Art in Boston, MA and at the North River Arts Society in Marshfield Hills, MA. She has studied with numerous well known Plein Air Painters of America; Lois Griffel, Charles Sovek, Peggi Kroll Roberts, Ken Auster and Kim English to name a few. She is a gallery artist at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, MA and exhibits regularly in her gallery/ studio where visitors are welcomed.
